Even though my mother lives an hour-and-a-half from me, I typically only see her on or around the holidays. While I always enjoy myself whenever I visit, I am known for regressing into childhood habits that prevent me from fully engaging in the experience of being there. I rarely sit down, often change the subject in conversations, and generally walk around with bugs in me britches. I get up from the table, hang out in my room, go through my stuff in the garage, and hover in doorways. I can be a bit weird, and usually act as if the place is haunted. This year I wanted it to be different. I didn’t want to short-change my moms. Since I already see her less than I should I really wanted to “show up” for this holiday and not be my usual freak self. So, this year I checked in with the Tarot, a medium I have complete confidence in, and asked a simple question,

“How can I be the best son for my mother on Thanksgiving?”

As we alllll know, later this week most people in America are going to stop what they are doing and cook up a giant bird along with a pile of season-appropriate side dishes. They’ll chatter, drink, and connect themselves to the rest of their national community through parades and sports. Well, some of them will….
